I assume that you only notice your mucus when you’re sick. However, you need to know more about mucus and why it is crucial for our body!
Our mouth, throat, sinuses, lungs, nose, and the gastrointestinal tract have tissues that produce mucus that works to protect these parts of the body, thus preventing the tissues from becoming dried out.

Production of Mucus
Our body constantly creates mucus. It is thin in consistency so you can’t notice it most of the time. However, in some cases, your mucus will change in consistency, meaning that you will notice the production, and all you want to do is eliminate it.
This happens when you are sick or when your body is affected by an allergen and it is trying to destroy the allergen. You may not believe it, but there are some foods that can cause an excessive production of mucus.
Foods That Create Mucus
There are some foods that cause gustatory rhinitis to go into effect. Consequently, this leads to an excessive production of mucus. Many studies showed that there are 5 foods, in particular, that lead to an increased production of mucus. So, if you want to reduce the excess mucus, make sure to avoid the following foods:
- Milk and other dairy products
- Red meat that has a high fat content
- Refined sugar
